Our Lakeside Mission began in April 1976 when the deacons of the First Baptist Church recommended and gained approval from the Church Council for a committee to study the prospect of acquiring a location for a mission work near Beaver Lake. In May, First Baptist Church approved a committee to serve as their Mission Committee.
By February 1977 our location had been selected.
In July, the name Lakeside Baptist Mission was selected.
The mobile chapel arrived in November 1977 and Brother Ben Rowell, Pastor of First Baptist, preached the first service on January 8, 1978.
Brother Robert Burk was called to become our mission pastor on May 3rd and, accepting God’s call, preached his first mission sermon on Sunday June 4, 1978.
In 1980, a feasibility committee was created to explore the possibility of building a church home. On August 10, 1980 a groundbreaking ceremony was held. The building was completed January 22, 1981. On February 22, Lakeside Baptist was constituted as a church. There were seventy-for charter members. The first Sunday had 39 in Sunday School and 56 in worship service.
In 1982, a bus was purchased.
A note burning ceremony was held September 16, 1984 and Lakeside was declared “debt free.”
On April 28, 1985 a groundbreaking ceremony was held for a multi-purpose building. The New Christian Activity Center was dedicated on October 27th.
May 5, 1985 we began a bus ministry.
June 8, 1985 seven members left for Billings, Montana on the first mission trip.
On Easter of 2000, the first service was held in the new sanctuary, recently converted from the multi-purpose building. The remainder of that year was spent converting the old sanctuary to classrooms.
In 2001, Lakeside built a mission in the Rocky Branch area and on October 7, 2001, Rocky Branch Baptist Church, held its first service.
The sanctuary was remodeled again Spring of 2017 to what it is today.
